Assurant Health is the brand name for the portfolio of insurance and health-related products underwritten and issued by Assurant Health's underwriting companies—Time Insurance Company, John Alden Life Insurance Company, and Union Security Insurance Company, all of which carry an A.M. Best rating of A- (excellent). It began operations in 1892 as Time Insurance Company and has been a member of the Assurant Inc., (known as Fortis until 2004) family of businesses since 1977.

Assurant Health specializes in individual, short-term, student, international medical and health insurance, as well as small employer group health insurance designed to for employers with two to 50 employees. Assurant Health plans are sold directly to small groups/employers and individuals.

Assurant Health Plans

Assurant Health insurance plans are tailored to fit individual as well as diverse needs. Basic comprehensive coverage includes provisions for office visits, wellness exams, hospital services, home health care, and organ transplants. Please note that health insurance plan features, benefits, deductibles, term lengths, and options vary according to individual and state requirements.

• Individual and Family - Offers comprehensive, customizable, stand-alone medical plans and integrated product packages. Traditional and Network (PPO) plans are available. These provide up to $8 million in lifetime maximum benefit, a prescription drug benefit, range of co-payment options, Accidental Medical Expense (AME) protection, dental and vision benefits, and 12 month rate guarantees.

• Small Employer - Include Consumer Choice Plans that feature Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRA), four types of Major Medical Plans from traditional to hospital only, and Healthy Lifestyle Plans that provide routine check-ups and wellness services with a wide range of deductible levels for health-conscious employees.

• Short-Term Medical (STM) - A temporary health insurance policy that offers coverage for 30 to 365 days for individuals who are between permanent health plans. STM is not an HMO or PPO plan, and covered individuals can visit the doctor of their choice.

• Student - The Student Select Plan targets undergraduate and graduate students no longer covered by their parents' insurance. Coverage lasts as long as the individual needs it and continues to pay premiums-even after graduation. Coverage includes $1 million lifetime maximum benefit, a range of deductibles, and 80 percent coinsurance to $10,000 (100 percent thereafter).

• International - Assurant offers Patriot Travel® short-term and long-term coverage plans for individuals traveling or living abroad. Short-term coverage is available in two forms: travel medical and business travelers coverage. Additionally, it offers three levels of trip cancellation coverage (called Patriot T.R.I.PSM) to protect travel plans in case an unforeseen illness or injury prevents travel.

Assurant Health also offers non-insurance products such as discount prescription, dental, vision, and medical savings plans that give consumers savings of five to 50 percent with select service providers.
