Celtic Insurance Company is a major provider of individual health insurance plans. The company headquarters is in Chicago, Illinois, and is licensed to do business throughout the United States, except in New York. Approximately 90,000 people are covered by Celtic plans. A.M. Best Company has given Celtic an "A-" (excellent) rating.

Founded in 1978, Celtic began as a broker, insurance, and reinsurance company for group life and health coverage. Since that time, its focus has narrowed to individual health coverage. For over 10 years, Celtic has earned excellent ratings for its financial condition and operating performance. These ratings reflect the company's profitability, high-quality investment portfolio, and strong capital position. Celtic does not own junk bonds, real estate, or direct mortgage loans. It also does not have outstanding debt.

Celtic Plans

Celtic offers a broad range of health insurance plans for individuals. The choices consist of a range of benefits that offer flexibility, allowing individuals to obtain the coverage they need at a cost they can afford. There is flexibility with respect to deductibles and coinsurance. In addition to standard health care coverage, there are options for prescription drug coverage and preventive care. Celtic also offers Medicare supplement plans. Three types of health care offerings are described below:

• Celtic Basic Health Plan - This Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan is designed to provide high-quality, basic health care coverage at minimal cost. This coverage includes two $30 copay office visits per year and a $200 wellness benefit after 12 months of coverage. There is also an optional copay prescription drug card or free Rx discount card. The maximum lifetime benefit is $5 million. Available in areas that have preferred providers and hospitals, the plan is for persons between the ages of six months and 64½ years old.
  
  
• Celtic Short-Term - This short-term plan is intended to provide flexible, affordable health care coverage for most injuries and illnesses. The plan provides both inpatient and outpatient coverage. It also covers office doctor visits, surgical procedures, and laboratory charges. The length of coverage ranges from one to six months. Policies are one-term and nonrenewable. A range of deductibles is also available. These plans are recommended for people between jobs, recent military discharges, college graduates, and people awaiting full-time health care coverage.
  
  
• Celtic PostGrad - This plan is available for college graduates who need temporary health care coverage between graduation and starting a first job. The benefits and terms of these plans are similar to those of the Celtic Short-Term plans.
