Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey has been servicing nearly three million New Jersey residents since its inception in 1932, offering health care products and services. Individuals, families, and companies who are residents of Northern, Central, and Southern New Jersey have various options available, including managed care, Medicare, and traditional health care plans. Blue Cross and Blue Shield were two different service companies until they merged in 1987 and formed a comprehensive health care company that is headquartered in Newark.
Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield Plans
Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey offers an array of plans, all with varying provisions. Some of these include:
- Horizon Basic Plan A/50 - This is a deductible-based plan where members can seek medical care from any provider. Non-network providers may also be visited, but at a higher out-of-pocket cost.
- Horizon Traditional Plans B, C, and D - There are traditional plans that allow members to choose from deductibles of $500 to $2,500. Co-payments change depending on the member's choice of deductible. In-network providers are covered for a lower out-of-pocket rate than non-network providers.
- Horizon MSA Companion/High Deductible Plans C and D - These traditional health plans are combined with Medical Savings Accounts. Members can choose from a range of deductibles.
- Horizon HMO - A Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plan. Members much choose a Primary Care Physician (PCP) from among more than 10,000 doctors across New Jersey.
- Traditional Indemnity - Plans that reimburse members for care after their deductibles have been met.
